URL - Umstandskrämer, Richtig Langatmig?

Hallo zusammen!

Zwar bin ich nicht dabei, eine Homepage selbst zu machen, trotzdem passt diese Frage hier am besten, da es um ein web-technisches Thema geht.

Wenn ich z.B. hier im Nickles-Forum eine Seite verlinken möchte, fällt mir mitunter auf, dass die URLs zum Teil irrsinnig lang sind, und wenn ich genauer hinschaue, kommt mir diese Länge oft überflüssig vor.

Gestern habe ich auf dem Windows 8-Board die Win8-Angebote von softwarebilliger verlinkt. Die URL sollte ursprünglich so aussehen: http://www.softwarebilliger.de/cgi-bin/shop/front/shop_main.cgi?func=searchdo&sfields=&wkid=1094918765962655&rub1_search=all&sfield=1&sbeg=windows%208

Folgenden String-Müll, jeweils mit einem &-Zeichen beginnend, kann man problemlos aus der URL entfernen:

&sfield=1

Übrigens ist Amazon in dieser Beziehung auch ganz extrem, speziell auf den Empfehlungsseiten sind die URLs wahnsinnig aufgebläht und funktionieren immer noch, wenn man die Hälfte weglässt - gewusst welche, versteht sich.

Doch was steckt dahinter? Welche aus Anwendersicht überflüssigen Daten werden an den Seitenbetreiber mitübertragen? Diese "wkid" riecht ein wenig nach Schnüffelei (Referrer?) und alles andere wirkt schlicht redundant.

Von euch weiß bestimmt jemand mehr?
