GRUB Problem

Ich hab mich als totaler Linux Newbie an ne Gentoo Stage 1 Installation gewagt. Soweit hat auch alles geklappt. Nur mein GRUB macht Probleme:

Ich habs sowhl per "grub-install" als auch manuell probiert immer das gleiche Ergebnis:

Beim Booten startet GRUB aber statt der Übersicht zeigt er mit nur ne Komanndozeile. Wenn ich dann "configfile /grub/grub.conf" eingebe komm ich in die Übersicht und kann dann auch problemlos WinXP oder Gentoo starten, die "grub.conf" Einträge sollten also stimmen.

Was mach ich denn falsch, das GRUB seine configfile nicht findet?

Das Boot-Menü ist in der Datei /boot/grub/menu.lst eingetragen.
