die anderen Videodateien spiel ich mit dem totemplayer.
der gxine spielt garnix. bei nicht DVD sachen läuft zwar der Fortschrittsbalken, aber kien Ton, kein Bild.
"5.1. Playing DVDs
The movie players provided with Ubuntu are capable of reading DVDs that are not encrypted; encrypted DVD support is not available by default in Ubuntu due to legal restrictions surrounding the DVD format. However, it is possible to play encrypted DVDs on Ubuntu by installing some additional software.
In some countries it is possible that the use of some of the following software to play or copy DVDs is not permitted by law. Verify that you are within your rights in using it.
1.
Install the following packages from the “Universe” and “Multiverse” repositories (see Add Applications):
* gxine
* libdvdc**2
* libdvdnav4
* libdvdplay0
* libdvdread3

Click Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type the following into the screen which appears, followed by the Return key:
sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-c**.sh

Press System → Preferences → Removable Drives and Media and click on the Multimedia tab.

In the Command box under Video DVD Discs, type “gxine -S dvd:/” (without quotes) and then press Close.
5.
Insert a DVD disc into the DVD drive of your computer. It should play automatically in gxine. You can press the f key to watch the DVD full-screen.
Das ist die Anleitung aus Ubuntu. nach der hab ich den Kram eingerichtet.
EDIT:
hab mal den DVD-Ordner geöffnet. wenn ich das VOB-File klicke, startet der Totem. wiedergabe enwandfrei, bis auf fehlende Untertitel. Das heisst damit, Laufwerk in Ordnung.
