DT Swiss: "Nein, CH steht nicht für China"
Desolisation / 0 Antworten / Baumansicht"MAY 23, 2005 -- GRAND JUNCTION, CO (BRAIN)--DT Swiss\' U.S. office has received several calls recently from consumers and industry members asking why the company advertises "made in Switzerland" when its products, they said, are made in China. After some confusion, DT Swiss\' staff realized people were assuming the Swiss designation "CH" stood for China.
On some DT Swiss product packaging, CH is listed under product origin.
"One industry veteran even wanted to cancel his order because he didn\'t want to purchase a product that was manufactured in China and was upset that we were misleading in our advertising," said Kenny Roberts, DT Swiss\' sales and marketing representative. "At DT Swiss we feel that there are many high quality products coming out of China, and we have even partnered with Alex to manufacture OEM rims next year in Taiwan, but we don\'t want people to be confused as to where we manufacture our current products."
DT Swiss products are manufactured in Switzerland, or, in the case of spokes, also in the United States.
CH stands for "Confoederatio Helvetica," which is Latin for Helvetic Confederation and translates into English as Swiss Confederation.
"The Helvetii were an ancient group of people who occupied what is now Switzerland in the first century BC and were defeated by the Romans, thus the term CH for Switzerland," Roberts said. "The Swiss Cross was originally derived from a banner of the Holy Roman Empire and traditionally stands for freedom, honor and fidelity."
"So you see, it is possible to combine bicycles and history and learn something in the process," Roberts added."
