HELP OVERDOSE 3 or CLEVO 2200C: BLUE SCREENS!!

lucQ / 16 Antworten / Baumansicht Nickles

Hello,

Since I have upgraded Windows Millenium to Windows XP Pro on my Gericom Overdose 3 996 Mhz, L2 256, I got regularly a blue screen and then the laptop falls out This happens when I start up, but also just when I (think I) am working fine.

DO I NEED TO UPGRADE THE BIOS??

HOW CAN I DO SO?

On the Clevo website, I have located and downloaded several update drivers  but I don't know if these are the Bios upgrade and if I install them properly just bij running the exefiles.

I heard somewhere that I should install these updated drivers before I install XP , but how, or when then? Should I change to NTFS volumes instead of FAT32?

Who can help me out?

Take this bios file (110C) before installing XP and this drivers after installing XP:
ftp://ftp.gericom.com/Notebook/2xC/Bios/
ftp://ftp.gericom.com/Notebook/2xC/winXP/

1.Download BIOS Update files.
2.Prepare a bootable diskette and copy BIOS refresh tool programs (flash.exe and fp.exe)
and BIOS file (22cr110.bin) to the diskette.
3.Insert the diskette into machine then boot up machine via floppy, type fp BIOS_file_name.bin
to start BIOS refresh process.
4.When all process are finished please reboot machine and enter BIOS setup, press "Exit"
item and restore the default settings, then choose "Save and Exit" to save all setting changes.

As bootable diskette I can recommend DrDOS 7.x Disk For BIOS Flashing Basic - No Drivers:

At the DOS Prompt you have to type fp 22cr110.bin [enter].

Direct after flashing you have to go into the BIOS and load and save the default settings!

Thank you very much, I will try this, but do I understand this right:
1.I just start up from the diskette that I prepared as you said and I do the flashing.
(Don't I have to check anything? Vagely I remembered reading about checking out the Bios number, the chipset? en so ON? putting off the 'schadowing'?
2. Then I start to install XP all over again?

That is to say I try to create a NTFS volume instead of an FAT 32 and start a new installation.
3. I install the updated drivers for the machine that I found where you said.
4. I install the Servicepack 1 and so on
5. I install my programs and finally I put back my documents?

Hello Alpha13
I tried to flash the BIOS as described by you. As I could not turn off anything about shadowing or cachememory what so ever, I started and everything went well, BUT:
at the end just as I got the message that I could turn the computer off, I recieved the message : DIVIDE ERROR.
At the very same moment The machine seemed to fall out. It took several trials to start it up again. As I could not enter the BIOS I finally managed to start Windows XP.
Everthing looks like before, I don't think I flashed up the BIOS, as I have not restored the default settings immediately after. Isn't it?
What do I do now?

If you got the message that You could turn the computer off, the Bios has been flashed!
You can verify this by entering the Bios or with Sandra:

Restoring the default settings is only a safty action!

Do You use DrDOS 7.x Disk For BIOS Flashing Basic - No Drivers?

Booted from this disk?

Did You type fp 22cr110.bin [ENTER] at the DOS-Prompt?

To boot via floppy, You have to change the Bootsequenz in the Bios to floppy!

Hooray,
Thank you, Alpha13, I flashed again with your advice :"Type fp /n=Gericom 22cr110.bin [ENTER] at the DOS-Prompt"
The machine had it very difficult to start up again. Each time I wanted to enter the BIOS settings, it fell out. I even think (thought?) the hard disk is (was?) dammaged. Finally I ended by just letting the machine start windows. Then I tried to check the harddisch via norton utilities. But the machine hanged at 85 %. The next morning I tried again, and everthing went all right. I have been working all day and at this very moment, he hasn't fallen out yet. I will try him tomorrow in school.
THANK YOU AGAIN, As soon as I encouter new problems you will hear from me again :)

Here I am again :(
The original problem is still there: Suddenly, I get a Blue screen with the message that IRL_ IS_ LESS_ OR_ NOT_ EQUAL or something like that and then the machine falls out, sometimes it starts up again, sometimes not.
WHAT IS GOING WRONG???

Hi,

I've experienced similar problems with the clevo2200c.
Installing the latest bios doesn't seem to help.
Finally installing a win98_se seemed to be the most stable solution.
Any other ideas?

grtz,

T

You are right that installing the latest bios didnot help. For the moment I am trying to get rid of the machine, although I find it stupid because I can only loose on it. But since I am a teacher and I use the machine in the classroom, I can't afford to fall out everytime I am working. Perhaps I should have tryed installing a win98_se version. Did the Blue screens disappear?
Merry christmas and a happy new year :)

It's the latest.
